Clans 2005
There are at least 6 more clans coming in - registration will not be available until all clans are listed.
All of the Clans at Twilight Covening are designed to provide deep and fulfilling
experiences. An asterisk (*) indicates a Clan which requires an application for
admission. These Clans are more likely to induce intense responses.
If you would like to apply to join one of these Clans, please include in your
statement a description of your training, your skills and practice with these
kind of encounters and a description of the kind of support system you have in
place outside of Twilight Covening (coven, therapist, teacher, etc.).
Badger Clan *
Badger Clan will explore the role and practice of the Sacred Warrior, both on the physical and spiritual planes. We will work with various disciplines from around the world, and can accommodate those who are mobility challenged. We will be doing some high-level work, so this clan is open only to alumnae of Reindeer Clan and Hunters from Walrus Clan and will share a cabin.
Jane S., leader assisted by Bob Bestwick
Crow Clan *
Slough off your ego and join a murder of crows. Experience the magic of being the "unseen hands". Crow clan will work with maintaining heightened awareness in connection with others while facilitating ritual energy flow. We will use trust exercises and non-verbal communication to develop a focused but anonymous presence within ritual space, trancing in instead of trancing out. The Crows will provide support for the Fire releasing and Visioning rituals, and will share a sleeping space. Not recommended for persons with physical touch issues or mobility challenges. (this clan is a pre-requisite for Raven clan)
Moira Ashleigh & Duncan Eagleson, leaders
Deer Clan
Deer possess acute sense to subtle energies, and blend into the forest, silently becoming one with the land. In this Clan we will let go of our attachment to our sense of self as we spend extended time outside. We will still ourselves with breath and connect physically with the elements through meditation, deepening our connections with all that is around us.
Walter Kittredge, leader
Dolphin Clan
Dolphin is the keeper of the sacred breath of life. Breathwork is a tool for manifesting
desires. Movement is integral to every aspect of life; from the beating of your
heart, the movement of your lungs and limbs to the blink of an eye and the smile
on your lips. We will spend the weekend using Breathwork, with some sound and
movement to journey deep within our emotional selves, to align, through breathing,
all of the movements in our life processes; to bring focus and intention to daily
living . This clan will be mentally and emotionally challenging. Some stamina
will be required as Breathwork can be tiring.
Karina Fireheart & Arana Fireheart, leaders
Eagle Clan
Follow your bliss. Find where it is, and don't be afraid to follow it. ~ Joseph Campbell
In Eagle Clan, we will explore ways to uncover our deepest dreams and empower ourselves to manifest them in the world. Supported by the clan and by the unseen world, using shamanic drumming, trance, and ritual, we will learn techniques to strongly set intention, to maintain focus despite life's diversions, and to make real the dreams we hold, turning possibilities into actualities. Gathering those who have found their life paths and those who are still searching, we will connect with core sources of inspiration and energize positive change in our lives and our communities.
Andrew Arthur & Jane LeCompte, leaders
Elk Clan
Uniting the old with the new, this Clan will focus on the rituals and lore of Northern European heathenism. We will create and perform such rituals as the Blot and Sumbel; learn to "see" the Runes in the natural world and incorporate them into our magic and into our everyday lives; explore the stories about the Gods and Goddesses of the Elder Troth; and travel and shape-shift to the beat of the shaman's drum to seek wisdom on the Inner Planes. Some experience with shamanic journeying is helpful, but not necessary. This Clan will share a cabin.
Ulf & Starwind, leaders
Jaguar Clan
Do you know those whose backs you stand upon? Do you long to create a communion with those that have gone before you? Do you know little about your grandmother, great grandfather or great-great-great-grand aunt, but treasure their brooch, pocket watch or favorite quilt? In Yoruba it is said that to know yourself you must know the seven generations before you. Through using multi-traditional techniques of drumming, chanting, trance and sacred art this clan will work to help each individual connect with their ancestors, genetic or spiritual. The Mayan culture reveres the Jaguar as the God of the Underworld. The Jaguar is at home in the dark and has good night vision. It moves without fear and teaches us how to trust our personal instincts when communicating with the dead. It can awaken psychic sight in those who hold this totem. While this clan is open to everyone they will share a cabin, so be prepared to go deep.
Amanda Brooks, leader
Phoenix Clan *
Who we are in the world is shaped by our experiences. Some of these events were powerful, ecstatic and nourishing. Others were grounded in loss, grief and anger. If a strand of psychic energy still connects us to one of those events, though we may be healed from it emotionally, it will deplete our core energy and drain us of vital will. Using a specific Tarot card spread we will recover that lost energy. The prerequisite for this clan is that you state in a letter what you have done (therapy, specific magical work, etc.) to heal from the "big" life event you plan to work with since this is not about healing from the event itself but detaching from it. You must also have attended Twilight Covening before.
Susan Curewitz Arthen, leader
Red Dragon Clan
The dragon is the symbol of the Cymry, the people of Wales, and
stands guard over the mysteries of these ancient Celts. Using
shape-shifting techniques known to this earth-honoring pagan
tradition, we will dance the dragon's path toward trance and vision.
We will move through transformative postures drawn from spirit-animal
energies revealed through ancient Welsh mythology. This Clan will
offer substantial, meaningful work for both new and returning dragon
clan members.
Juniper Talbot, leader
Spider Clan *
The Spider is able to spin essence into form and then consume it again. She is the totem of artists and diviners, swinging like a pendulum from her thread - a silvery strand that resembles the shaman's cord for traveling between the worlds. She connects past and future. She has many eyes for deep seeing, and an acute sensitivity for vibrations on the web. Our Clan's work will be centered on weaving Visual Elements in Ritual Practice. In our work we will reach in to transcendent states and explore symbolic forms to translate and hold the resonance of these mystic experiences. Experience as a Visual artist is welcome but by no means required.
Martin Bridge & Kaye Hughes Kittredge, leaders
Sphinx Clan *
The Sphinx is a mythical animal, usually female in representation, that combines lion, eagle, and human. It stands at a gateway with a question. Are you ready to meet it's challenge? The Sphinx Clan will be an advanced level, women-only clan that will explore healing practices for the deep work of women owning all of ourselves, in a dominator culture that still suppresses us, in overt and covert ways. With care and supervision, we will explore regression trance work, breath work, body wisdom techniques, moving meditation, sound, as a healing tool, and partnered energy work for the healing opportunities these techniques can provide. The goal of the work is for the participants to leave with a larger assortment of magical practices for their individual "winter's work". Participants should have done some formal personal growth practices related to their experience as women (individual or group therapy, workshops, coven work, etc), and not be squeamish about diving deeper into the Blood Mysteries (menstruation, childbirth and feminine creativity, menopause).
Camilla (Opeyemi) Parham, leader assisted by Robyn Mellish
Starfish Clan
For nearly two thousand years, astrology was a daily presence in the lives of Europeans: the images and symbols as well as the ebb and flow of energies. This weekend, we will focus on that ebb and flow, and learn simply ways to put ourselves more in touch with the daily, monthly, and yearly cycles of planetary energies. We will consider questions like: When is the best time to begin or work on a project? When is the best time to do certain types of magic? What kind of amulets would be most helpful and when should they be made? We often hear the axiom "as above, so below," but how do we know what is "above"? And how does what is "above" affect you personally? It may be easier than you think! Only a very basic knowledge of astrology is necessary before participating in this clan.
Chris LaFond, leader
Wolf Clan *
Come and explore the dynamic nature of the wolf pack! We are individuals yet we are a community. We will be building on our awareness of the tensions and conflicts between those positions through focused energy work and exploration of the physical and energetic edges all around us. Through physical contact, trance dance, breath work and an all-night vigil we will work with our fears and strengths and develop tools to aid in times of conflict. Join us to hunt the edges for symbols to carry us into our winter work. The Clan is not recommended for individuals with physical touch issues; however, even though we will sometimes be dealing with aggressive energies, this will not include physical combat. This Clan will share a cabin.
Jason Sykes and Tracy Hicks, leaders
