Late Autumn 96AS ABOVE, SO BELOWby Miriam Klamkin |

Saturn trine Pluto, with Uranus sextile both. A trine (a 120 degree arc between two planets, one-third of the circle) and a sextile (a 60 degree arc, one-sixth of the circle) both carry the energy of the number three. Threes are very strong, relieving the tension of the polarized two by adding a supportive energy on which both poles can draw. So trines and sextiles are supportive, helpful aspects which allow energy to flow freely. Mind you, this isn't always desirable -- for one thing, not every energy is one which you want to see flowing freely; for another, if energy is allowed to flow undisciplined all over the place, it never has a chance to gather much power. But in general, these aspects are the easy, user-friendly ones. Anyway, Saturn's involved, so don't worry. Saturn the rock won't allow undisciplined, uncontained energy, even with volcanic Pluto and lightning-bolt Uranus doing their worst. Saturn in Aries sets strong boundaries around our ambitions and desires, creating a container which can feel constructive or restrictive, depending on how well you handle containers. Pluto in Sagittarius demands that we let go of the illusion of security and control which our old familiar belief system offered us, and face the fact that reality is not as we always thought it was. The Saturn-Pluto square was discussed in these pages a couple of years back. Now the same two planets have moved into a trine relationship, which produces an easier flow of energy than the challenge and conflict of the square. In our Saturn container, as we learn the limits (Saturn) of desire (Aries), it becomes easier to let go (Pluto) of our need to hold on to what we know (Sagittarius), and to let our whole framework of beliefs be transformed (Pluto). Meanwhile, Uranus is transiting the midpoint between these two planets. A planet at the midpoint of two trining planets is in sextile to both. So Uranus sextiles both planets, helping us break out of outmoded patterns. Uranus in its own sign, Aquarius, brings sudden inspirations and sudden changes which demand a reordering of our lives and our world, involving radical and often abrupt departures from social norms and institutions. Who is affected by this? Everyone. Some more, some less. If you have any planets or other placements in the first ten degrees of the positive (Fire and Air) signs in your natal chart, this configuration's effect on you will be particularly strong. How might this manifest in your life? Well, the house Saturn is passing through tells you more about what area of your life is affected. For example, Saturn transiting your second house may restrict your earning and spending power, focusing your energies on the material things that really matter to you. With Pluto in your tenth house, the financial situation helps to transform your beliefs about your work, particularly the contribution you are making (or not making) to society, and your relationship with authority. Meanwhile, Uranus is perhaps in your twelfth house, tearing down internalized conventions and inspiring your dreams, which in turn inspire new concepts of work and money. The trine was exact on April 27 and October 25, and will be exact for the last time on February 19, 1997, but its effect lasts for at least a month at a time, so allow at least two weeks on either side of each "exact" date. The sextiles (Saturn-Uranus and Uranus-Pluto) occur intermittently throughout 1996 and 1997, including one this November. |
